Laugh Out Loud

I was watching an episode of Oprah’s “Super Soul Sunday” today and she was interviewing Mariel Hemingway and her man, Bobby Williams, about their new book, “Running with Nature.” This is a fabulous book on “law of attraction” and “living in the now.” I write blogs, and in my own quest for happiness I have certainly noticed a change in consciousness for me, but the evidence is mounting as I continue to see more and more people feeling what I feel, and that is, a feeling of freedom. Yes, freedom to think what I want to think, to do what I want to do, say what I want to say and love the way I want to love. My whole life has become about “the now.” The past is gone, although I have learned a lot of lessons from then. And the future is unknown, although we still have wants, dreams and desires to strive for. We need to realize that everything is a miracle, I mean every little thing. When we start looking at life in this way our spirits are elevated and we open ourselves up to the impossible. Or should I say that we realize that nothing is impossible? It’s just “divine timing” that needs to occur before our hopes and dreams are actually altered into tangible form.

You know, reality is a very individual thing. What I believe to be true for me, may not be true for you. That is the beauty of being true to yourself, living in the now and doing whatever it is, that truly makes you happy. Of course by doing this, things in your life will change, including friendships. But, that’s okay. By opening yourself up to the Universe, and letting life unfold, you will find yourself surrounded by likeminded people.

I wrote a blog called, “We’re Still Here.” It’s about the Mayan Calendar ending. In my opinion this was the end of doubt, fear and hatred, and the beginning of a new consciousness of love, truth and honesty. This is not only towards other people but especially towards ourselves. We all have a purpose in this life so when we start paying attention to the signs we are given, we all benefit. The way this happens is by being completely true to ourselves and to keep gratitude in our hearts for all the good that is in our lives right now. Gratitude is our way of saying, “Thank you for giving me another day on this earth to do what I do best.” You know, by being silly and crazy and dancing like a fool this helps us to be creative and discover what our purpose actually is. Laughing is good for the soul. We need to laugh. Have you ever found yourself laughing and thought, “If I don’t laugh I’ll cry?” Well I have, and it’s a very emotional experience. Since I started living this positive, in the moment life, I have had several people come to me for help. I’ve been told by some of them that I actually saved their lives. There is an adage that says, “When the student is ready, the teacher will come.” I feel that this is my purpose in life, to teach by example. But what I find particularly interesting is that when the student actually starts applying these techniques of positive living and doing everything out of love and incorporating laughter into their everyday lives, they truly see the results, and therefore they become the teachers. I love it!

People can change, but only if they want to and when they are ready. One of my good friends had been asking me for help for years, but she never seemed to take the advice I offered. Then one day she was sitting at home recovering from an injury when she had a revelation. All of a sudden everything started to make sense to her. She was in a horrible marriage and for some reason she was determined to make it work. But after sitting there for 3 months and seeing the way her husband was treating her she felt it was time to get out and find joy and laughter once again. I just so happened to have an empty room in my home so she came to live with me for a while. The first few nights she was here we spent a lot of time with our other roommates talking and laughing until we cried. We were having a great time. People she knew for years were also telling her that they could hear the happiness in her voice. This blew her away because she had just barely left her husband but already it was evident that she was on a much brighter path. She told me that before she called me to come rescue her, she would imagine what it would be like to sit on my big front porch in the mornings and drink coffee, discuss the days plans and generally have good conversation. But after she got here she said that it was even better than she had imagined. See, we do bring things in to existence by visualizing what it feels like. We need to put emotion behind the idea. When you can actually feel it, it’s more likely to come true.

I remember when my son was about 4 years old and we were driving up an off ramp, when my transmission blew a hole through the top of it. There was black smoke bellowing out the back of my van. When I stopped at the top of the ramp the smoke shifted to the front of the van and I thought we were on fire and there might be an even bigger explosion. I got out of the van and instructed my kids to get out quickly but they were bickering about who would go first. I reached in and grabbed them both out as quickly as I could and ran to the sidewalk. Fortunately there was a fire station across the street and several fire fighters with extinguishers ran across the street to put out the fire which turned out to be only smoke. The tow truck came and took all of us to my mechanic’s shop. From there we took a taxi cab home. As we were in route, my son looked up at me and said, “We’re on an adventure, huh mom?” I said “Yes son that is exactly what we’re on.” Out of the mouths of babes comes a very profound idea, and that is; that life is one adventure after another and each one is just one more step of our fabulous journey. When we find humor in our lives every day, we will feel better, live longer and be much, much happier.

So with all that said, I implore you to take heed and LAUGH OUT LOUD as often as possible, and love deeper, then allow yourself the freedom to be happy. Life is precious, treat it that way.

Forever Yours, Deb
